Mostly used with angles. The square hole in the plate keeps carriage bolts from turning when the bolts are tightened.
All of our Dock Hardware is made from hot dipped galvanized 1/4" steel. You can use lumber from 1-1/2" to 2-1/2" thick and 8", 10", or 12" high. The square holes are made for 1/2" carriage bolts.
